Meet the Team – Podcast Producer, Karabo Ramuhashi

About me

I am an audio engineer, aspiring sound designer, and vernacular languages, enthusiast.

What do you do?

I am a Podcast Producer for CF Communications. I am also a Recording/Final Mix Engineer for a media company, a Podcast Producer for multiple channels in South Africa and in the United States, and an Audio Editor for an educational mobile and web application.

What did you study?

I studied Sound Engineering in Cape Town.

What was your first job?

Hahahaha my first job was in 2005; I was a DJ when I was in high school.

What did you want to be when you were younger?

I wanted to be a musician.

What has been your career highlight?

When I got a chance to be involved in recording, mixing, and being a language coordinator for the isiXhosa version of Noddy and Post Man Pat that aired on eTV in 2019.

Where is home?

I stay in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town; I can create in peace this side of the city.

How do you spend your weekends?

With my family and friends doing all sorts of random things from going to a wine farm or just braaing.

What’s your favourite movie?

The Matrix; it has changed the way I looked at audio in film.

If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Hahaha, Chicken Licken wings.

Which destination is on your bucket list to visit?

Tokyo; the street fashion culture is amazing. And probably France, for their fermented grapes.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Chicken Licken wings.

What piece of advice can you give aspiring audio engineers?

Grow with your template, grow with your vocal chain, grow with your hardware, and for podcasts editors. Almost everyone is recording remotely in untreated spaces and rooms due to the pandemic and most people are doing it for the first time. Invest in audio restoration plug-ins so that you can avail yourself to clean up their audio.
