I’m a lover of witty language, the smell of homemade bread, and smart marketing. I’ve worked across various industries, including eCommerce, real estate, and education, and am passionate about using this background to build brands and spread messages worth listening to. A born and bred Capetonian, I’m at my happiest close to the mountains or enjoying a day by the sea.
What do you do?
I create, write, and edit content.
What did you study?
I studied BA Humanities, specialising in English Literature, Linguistics, and Psychology. I then completed my postgraduate studies in Education, with a focus on multilingual education and educational psychology.
What was your first job?
I was a teacher at a special needs learning centre.
What did you want to be when you were younger?
My dream was to be an award-winning author. And also an actress. All while travelling the world. And rescuing dogs.
What has been your career highlight?
I’ve been fortunate enough to work across diverse industries in a short timeframe. As a result, I’ve been lucky enough to have quite a few highlights, at least in that industry. I’d say the moment that stands out for me is winning the SAPOA award for the best young property journalist in 2018. Having started with very little knowledge of what I was supposed to be doing, I’d worked my way up and became the editor of a respected property publication. Being recognised by one of the biggest roleplayers in the real estate industry in South Africa was an incredible feeling.
Where is home?
My home is a light and airy apartment in the Cape Town City Bowl, right in the shadow of Table Mountain and close to all my favourite coffee spots. When I need a break from the hustle and bustle, I feel most at home next to a campfire by an off-the-grid cabin in the mountains.
How do you spend your weekends?
Weekends consist of homemade flapjacks, strong coffee, baking bread, hikes, and catching up on reading. I also enjoy shopping for plants, so can typically be found near a nursery, scoping out the latest addition to my little in-house jungle.
What’s your favourite movie?
The Truman Show and The Devil’s Advocate
If you could eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I’d be content with a bucket of cheese. Even happier if it’s in the form of some grilled cheese sandwiches.
Which destination is on your bucket list to visit?
I’ve always wanted to experience the vibrant and historical Budapest.
What is your guilty pleasure?
I can spend hours watching trashy reality TV shows on Netflix.
What piece of advice can you give aspiring copywriters?
Read. Read. Read. The more you know about the world in general, the better you get at zooming in on the facts that matter. It’s also not always as easy as sitting down and writing some really great copy – I’ve had to learn that deleting the whole thing and starting from scratch really can be the best approach sometimes.
What is the best part of your job?
Crafting content that speaks to people and opens up minds is one of the most rewarding things I can imagine. Not only am I sharing some interesting facts and ideas, I also get to continually learn and broaden my own horizons through the research I do.
