5 Mobile App Design Trends You Need to Know About In 2021
Having almost 10 years of experience with web and mobile app design, the team at Appello know how to use UI/UX trends to design visually pleasing and effective digital products for any industry.
From HealthTech to FinTech, Real-Estate apps to Educational apps, the list of industries are endless. That’s why we asked Appello’s Chief Design Officer, Pharaoh Whoghiren, to share his opinion on the App Design Trends to watch in 2021.
1. Personalised User Interfaces (PUI)
The graphical and usually touch-sensitive display on a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet, is a Mobile User Interface (mobile UI) which allows the user to interact with the apps, features, content, and functions of the device.
Personalised User Interfaces (PUIs) are being globally adopted in the field of mobile development. Shorter User Interface contact is becoming more mainstream, which contributes to solving several problems at once, as both services and content are personalised. It’s now commonplace to find solutions for individual users, where previously mobile applications were developed for a particular segment.
2. Voice User Interfaces (VUI)
Voice User Interface (VUI) design uses speech recognition, and ties into the emergence of applications and plugins that can read written text aloud, allowing users to engage with technology using voice commands.
VUI design works together with tap and swipe technologies to create a better user experience. As processors get smaller and more Internet of Things (IoT) devices come online, there has been an acceleration in the overall trend toward VUI. Google, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, and Facebook have all invested heavily in voice interface as the way forward.
Whether we’re talking about mobile apps or smart home speakers, voice interactions are becoming more common in today’s technology, especially since screen fatigue is a concern.
3. Chatbots
Digital communication has seen a wide adoption of chatbots and, now offering numerous advanced features, are one of the fastest-growing tech trends. Using a combination of artificial intelligence and machine learning, Brands have started using chatbots to improve their businesses and customer support. One can hardly imagine a customer-centric business that doesn’t use a chatbot in one way or another.
Of course, chatbots are still progressing, and we can expect some interesting opportunities to emerge in chatbot technology in 2021.
4. Augmented Reality (AR)
Augmented Reality (AR) features on mobile devices will become a more common part of everyday reality, making UI layouts more functional.
While Virtual Reality (VR) aims to create a completely immersive experience, Augmented Reality (AR) layers digitally create elements over the real world. This can be achieved using wearable devices, such as glasses or headsets, that project a digital image onto the lens, or by inserting those same elements into a camera image, like a smartphone screen.
AR can be compared to acting like a filter that alters how people perceive the world around them. This means that AR users are untied from a purely digital environment; they can walk around and interact with the physical world while still viewing digital elements.
One of the most important advantages to Augmented Reality is usability. True AR interfaces provide an intuitive and elegant user experience for a variety of services and technologies. Augmented Reality applications are already being used in several industries. Despite the relative youth of the technology, the future is looking bright across a variety of industries.
5. Passwordless Login
Since we use many applications every day, it’s difficult to remember all the passwords. In 2021, passwordless login, such as face, and fingerprint recognition (biometric authentication) will become more popular.
The old login and password method is no longer effective, as it requires time and effort from the user — plus the need to remember multiple passwords for different applications. Face ID and other facial recognition authentication technologies offer more accurate one-click authentication.
Building a user-friendly and useful app could be a key competitive advantage in 2021. The user experience is driving development. Web trends are changing faster than they can be implemented.
In 2021, the key trends in mobile growth will revolve around creating a healthy and engaging user experience, with developers concentrating on enhancing customer service quality.
